
New Delhi, May 12: A bizarre incident has emerged from Phuket, Thailand, where four Indian nationals collapsed while dining at a café. Tragically, one tourist has died, while three others are receiving treatment in a hospital. The Indian Embassy in Thailand has confirmed the seriousness of the situation and is sharing necessary information.
The Indian Embassy posted on social media platform X, stating, “The embassy is in contact with Thai authorities and is closely monitoring the incident involving four Indian tourists who collapsed in Phuket on May 9, 2026, and were subsequently hospitalized.”
The embassy expressed deep condolences over the death of the young Indian tourist. Officials are in touch with the deceased’s family to provide all possible assistance during this difficult time. They are also coordinating with relevant Thai authorities investigating the incident and monitoring the health status of the others.
According to information shared by the Bangkok Post, police confirmed that a 26-year-old Indian tourist died mysteriously after collapsing at a café in Phuket on Saturday morning, while three others remain hospitalized.
Local officials reported that the incident occurred in the Kamala Beach area of Kathu district. Emergency services were called after four foreign tourists collapsed in a popular café. Three were taken to Patong Hospital, and one to Thalang Hospital.
Investigating police visited both hospitals to gather statements from the victims. However, the three young men were unable to provide statements. The café’s security staff informed investigators that five Indian men arrived together at the café around 11 PM on Friday. They were identified as Kushagra Agarwal, Rahul Agarwal, another Rahul Agarwal, Aman Agarwal, and Aryan Verma.
Around 1:54 AM, four members of the group collapsed one by one. Café staff immediately called emergency services, and the men were transported to the hospital. The fifth individual, Aryan Verma, showed no symptoms.
Patong Hospital later reported that two individuals, Kushagra Agarwal and Rahul Agarwal, were in a coma and were transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.
By Saturday afternoon, police were informed that Kushagra Agarwal had passed away. The remaining three patients are reported to be in stable condition. Thai authorities have notified the Indian Embassy and are working with forensic specialists to conduct a detailed post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
