
Srinagar, April 19: The police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir arrested six drug traffickers on Sunday as part of an ongoing campaign against narcotics. They seized over 3.7 kilograms of drugs and ₹10,450 in cash during the operation.
According to a police statement, Anantnag police achieved significant success in three separate operations targeting drug trafficking.
Reports indicate that four individuals heading towards Anantnag town attempted to flee upon spotting the police team, but three were apprehended. The search yielded 3.178 kilograms of a substance resembling cannabis powder and ₹10,450 in cash.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabbir Kayoom, son of Abdul Kayoom Deva, a resident of Chini Chowk, Anantnag; Zahid Manzoor, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir, from Hasanpora Bagh, currently residing in Kha Bazaar, Anantnag; and Faizan Lone, son of Nazir Ahmad Lone, also from Mir-Dentar, Anantnag.
Another suspect, Gohar Reshi, a resident of Dantar, managed to escape. The police are actively searching for him and have formed a dedicated team for this purpose.
In a separate incident, a police party stopped a vehicle (JK 04 J 5556) at Marhama Crossing, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Tufail Hajam, son of Abdul Salam Hajam, and Mushtaq Ahmad Khande, son of Mohammad Sidique Khande, both residents of Badipora Chadoora.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 3.29 grams of a brown sugar-like substance and 7.88 grams of a substance resembling charas. Authorities confirmed that an FIR has been registered at the relevant police station.
In another case, during a checkpoint at Doodhnad Waghama, Javed Ahmad Mantu, son of Wali Mohammad Mantu from Waghama Bijbehara, was arrested with 468 grams of charas powder in his possession.
Officials stated that a case under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered as case number 98/2026.
Anantnag police reiterated their strict stance against the menace of drugs. They emphasized that rigorous action against drug peddlers and traffickers will continue to ensure the safety of youth and society. The public is urged to cooperate with the police and share any information related to drug trafficking in their areas. Identities of informants will be kept confidential.
