
Muzaffarpur, June 4: A devastating fire broke out in the ICU of Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, due to a short circuit, resulting in the tragic deaths of four individuals. District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen reported that several patients were safely evacuated and transferred to other hospitals.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed his sorrow over the incident. He stated on social media, “The death of four individuals due to the fire at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur is extremely tragic. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their families during this difficult time.”
The Chief Minister has directed that each family of the deceased receive an immediate compensation of ₹400,000. The local administration is fully mobilized, ensuring adequate arrangements for the treatment of the injured at nearby hospitals.
District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen noted that the fire in the ICU caused a significant amount of smoke to spread. Efforts were made to evacuate patients. According to reports, the unit in charge also suffered serious injuries along with other patients. So far, three fatalities have been confirmed, and other patients in the ICU and CCU have been shifted to nearby facilities for treatment.
SSP Kantesh Mishra confirmed that three deaths have been reported, with one person critically injured and hospitalized. The incident occurred around 3:30 to 3:45 AM, and it is believed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the ICU. The fire was brought under control quickly, but 12 to 13 patients were transferred to different hospitals.
An eyewitness stated that around 3 AM, the ICU was completely filled with smoke, and there was no one present to manage the situation. Security personnel fled the scene, and even with a cloth covering their mouths, breathing was difficult due to the smoke.
