New Delhi, May 29: A devastating fire at a girls’ hostel in Kenya has resulted in the tragic loss of 16 young lives. Spiritual leader Morari Bapu expressed his sorrow over the incident and announced financial assistance of 240,000 rupees for the affected families.

Morari Bapu received the news during a Ram Katha event in Killari, Latur. Demonstrating compassion, he pledged 15,000 rupees to each grieving family, totaling 240,000 rupees in aid. This support will be delivered through devotees associated with the Ram Katha in Nairobi.

The spiritual leader has also prayed for the peace of the departed souls at the feet of Lord Hanuman and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. According to American media outlet CNN, the Kenyan government reported that the fire broke out in a girls’ hostel located in a city within the Rift Valley region, leading to the unfortunate deaths of 16 students.

The Education Minister stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown. The blaze ignited just after midnight at the Utumishi Girls Academy Senior School in Gilgil, western-central Kenya, and burned for over two hours. The school houses more than 800 students. Reports indicate that 79 additional students were injured, although 71 of them have already been discharged from the hospital.

Footage aired on Kenyan television showed shattered window panes and smoke-filled walls, as family members gathered outside the school gate, anxiously seeking news of their missing loved ones.

According to government sources, fires in Kenyan schools are not uncommon. In 2024 alone, over 100 fire incidents were recorded. Researchers have found that many of these fires are set by students protesting strict discipline and poor conditions.
