Chandigarh, April 15: A tragic bus accident in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab, has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, with many others injured. Among the injured are women and children, all of whom have been rushed to various hospitals in Morinda and Fatehgarh Sahib for treatment.
Reports indicate that around 40 devotees were returning from the Baisakhi fair at Sri Anandpur Sahib when the bus encountered a sudden technical failure near Himmatpura (Bhathedi) in the Bassi Pathana area. The bus lost control and collided with an electricity pole, leading to its overturning. The severity of the crash was such that six people lost their lives at the scene.
Upon receiving the news, police and administrative teams quickly arrived at the accident site. They cleared the damaged bus from the road to restore traffic flow. Fatehgarh Sahib’s Superintendent of Police, Shubham Agarwal, confirmed that all injured individuals were transported to hospitals in a timely manner, and their treatment is ongoing. The identification process for the deceased is also underway.
Reports suggest that multiple victims hailed from the same village, with some families losing more than one member, resulting in profound grief and silence in the community.
Eyewitnesses described the accident as horrifying. One local resident reported hearing a loud bang and rushed to the scene, where he found the bus overturned and passengers screaming for help. Nearby villagers promptly initiated rescue efforts, assisting in extracting the injured from the bus.
Another eyewitness noted that initially, there were not enough ambulances on-site. Due to the arrival of only one ambulance, several injured individuals had to be transported to hospitals in private vehicles, causing a slight delay in relief efforts. However, the quick actions of local residents saved many lives.
In response to the Fatehgarh Sahib accident, the Prime Minister’s Office expressed condolences on social media platform X, stating, “I am deeply saddened to hear about the accident in Fatehgarh Sahib district, Punjab.
