Prime Minister Modi Surprises Snack Vendor with Visit in West Bengal

Kolkata, April 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an unexpected stop at a snack shop in Jhargram, West Bengal, on Sunday, where he enjoyed the local delicacy, ‘Jhalmuri.’ Shopkeeper Vikram Shaw expressed his astonishment at the Prime Minister’s visit, calling it a significant moment for him.

During his campaign for the West Bengal assembly elections, Prime Minister Modi paused briefly in Jhargram to savor the famous snack. His convoy halted unexpectedly at Vikram’s shop as he was heading towards the helipad after addressing a gathering.

Vikram Shaw shared that he never imagined the Prime Minister would visit his shop. He said, “It is a huge honor for me that the Prime Minister of the country came to eat Jhalmuri at my store.”

He recounted how the Prime Minister first asked for his name and inquired about his well-being. After requesting him to prepare Jhalmuri, Vikram offered it to him. When Modi asked for the price, Vikram initially declined to accept payment, but the Prime Minister insisted.

Vikram also noted that Modi praised his Jhalmuri and asked about his family background. He mentioned that his family hails from Gaya district in Bihar.

The shopkeeper further revealed that Modi showed interest in his education and work. Vikram explained that due to financial constraints, he had to drop out of school after the ninth grade. He shared that he earns between 1,000 to 1,200 rupees daily to support his family.

Despite the memorable encounter, Vikram humorously expressed regret that he couldn’t get an autograph from the Prime Minister.

A local resident present at the time described the moment as both surprising and joyous. He remarked, “Despite his high position, the Prime Minister visited a small shop in a small town. This is a proud and happy moment for the people here. It sets an example for Jhargram and all of West Bengal.”

Throughout the visit, the Prime Minister was seen engaging with the locals, smiling, and sharing Jhalmuri with children and women present.
