
Kabul, April 3: A tragic road accident in the Ghazni province of Eastern Afghanistan on Friday resulted in the deaths of two passengers, while thirteen others sustained injuries. The incident occurred when a passenger bus veered off the road.
According to provincial police spokesperson Khalid Sarhadi, the accident took place on the main road of Qarabagh district. He mentioned that a rescue operation is ongoing to find a missing child.
The spokesperson attributed the accident to reckless driving and stated that an investigation has been initiated.
Earlier, on March 28, another road accident occurred in the Laghman province of Eastern Afghanistan, resulting in one death and ten injuries. Police reported that a mini-bus recklessly collided with a three-wheeled rickshaw and a motorcycle in the provincial capital, Mehtarlam. One person died at the scene, and among the injured were five children and two women.
The injured were promptly admitted to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment. Police have urged drivers to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent such incidents.
Similarly, on March 1, a severe accident in the Jowzjan province of Northern Afghanistan resulted in at least three fatalities and six injuries. This incident was caused by a head-on collision between two speeding vehicles on the Jowzjan-Sari Pul highway in the Hadbakhshi area.
Both drivers and a female passenger died at the scene, while six others, including two children, were injured and hospitalized for treatment.
Road accidents in Afghanistan remain a serious issue. Poor road conditions, reckless driving, challenging geographical circumstances, and limited infrastructure are considered major contributing factors. The government and authorities continue to urge the public to follow traffic rules to prevent such tragic events.
