Tragic Accident in Jharkhand: Retired Worker Killed by Truck, Locals Demand Compensation

Mumbai, April 23: A tragic incident occurred in the Piparwar police area of Chatra district, Jharkhand, on Wednesday around noon. A speeding truck ran over Ursh Lohar, a retired CCL employee, also known as Suresh. He sustained severe injuries and later died during treatment at RIMS in Ranchi.

Following the incident, angry locals have blocked the road in Piparwar for the past eight hours, causing long traffic jams in the Koylanchal region. Reports indicate that Ursh Lohar, a resident of Kichato Panchayat, was riding his motorcycle towards Bilari when he was struck by the truck transporting coal from the Central Coalfields Ltd. CHP-CPP project to Amrapali.

Local residents rushed him to the regional hospital in Bachra, where he received initial treatment before being referred to RIMS. Unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival. News of the accident sparked outrage among villagers, who completely blocked the main road near the accident site.

Protesters are demanding a compensation of 2 million rupees for the deceased’s family, the establishment of a designated ‘no-entry’ time for heavy vehicles in the area, the construction of an alternative route, and an immediate halt to overloading. The blockade has halted coal transportation from the Magadh, Sanghamitra, and Amrapali projects.

Villagers present at the scene vocally criticized local authorities and representatives. They claim that thousands of trucks involved in coal transportation are recklessly driving on the roads, with no traffic control measures in place and the administration showing little concern for safety.

According to locals, several lives have been lost in accidents involving coal vehicles in this area, yet the system remains indifferent. As of the time of reporting, the roadblock continues, with negotiations ongoing between the administration and villagers. Police and forest department officials are present at the site, but residents remain firm in their demands for written assurances and immediate compensation.
