Patna, August 17: A tragic incident occurred outside the Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai district, Bihar, where at least seven devotees lost their lives due to a stampede. More than 12 individuals sustained injuries and have been admitted to local hospitals for treatment.
The chaos unfolded on the route leading to the temple from Ashok Dham station. A large number of devotees had gathered to participate in prayers and rituals on the third Monday of the sacred month of Sawan.
Initial reports indicate that a power pole fell on the path during the night, sparking panic among the crowd. Rumors circulated that the pole was electrified, causing people to flee in different directions in a state of fear.
This led to a stampede, trapping many devotees underneath one another. Local residents and fellow devotees immediately rushed to rescue those caught in the crowd. Police and administrative officials arrived at the scene promptly to initiate rescue operations and arrange for the injured to be transported to nearby hospitals.
So far, reports confirm the deaths of at least seven devotees, all of whom were women. There are concerns that the death toll may rise further.
The Ashok Dham Temple, also known as the Shri Indradamaneshwar Mahadev Temple, features a large Shiva Lingam discovered during excavations. The temple attracts a significant number of devotees, especially during the holy month of Sawan.
The month of Sawan holds great spiritual significance in Hinduism and is considered one of the most sacred times of the year. Sawan, typically occurring in July and August, sees devotees performing rituals and prayers to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. Many devotees observe fasts and dedicate themselves to worship and prayer during this month.
