Massive Crowds Gather at Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Third Monday of Sawan

Varanasi, August 17: On the third Monday of Sawan, millions of devotees have flocked to major Shiva temples across the country. In Varanasi, despite the rain, a large number of devotees and Kanwariyas gathered at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Devotees waited in long lines to offer water to Baba Vishwanath. To manage the crowd, strict security measures were implemented, including police deployment and drone surveillance.

Devotees were warmly welcomed with a shower of flowers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. They participated in the Mangala Aarti and chanted “Har Har Mahadev,” creating an atmosphere of faith and devotion.

ACP Atul Anjan from the Dashashwamedh area reported that millions of devotees had been arriving since morning. He also mentioned that boat operations were halted due to rising water levels.

Atul Anjan stated, “Today is the third Monday of Sawan, and it is also the festival of Nag Panchami. Millions of devotees have been arriving since morning. The water level is quite high and continues to rise, so boat operations have been suspended.”

DIG Shivhari Meena informed that officials had been on duty since midnight, managing the lines in an organized manner. He noted, “As you can see, all officials have been on duty since midnight. Everyone is in the field, ensuring the lines are managed properly.”

During this time, devotees praised the arrangements made by the administration. One devotee remarked, “The arrangements are excellent. I don’t think there is such organization at any of the 12 Jyotirlingas. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity for Baba’s touch darshan every day except Monday.”

He added that the number of Kanwariyas is higher on Mondays, which is why the administration has imposed restrictions for other devotees on this day. On other days, people can visit comfortably.
