Tragedy Strikes as Four Swept Away in Son River in Madhya Pradesh

Siddhi, June 15: A tragic incident occurred at the Bhawarsein Ghat on the Son River in Siddhi district, Madhya Pradesh, where four individuals—three women and one man—were swept away by strong currents while bathing.

Authorities reported that during the rescue operation, the body of one woman was recovered, while searches for the remaining three individuals continue.

The incident took place between 12:30 PM and 1 PM in the Rampur Naikin police station area, as the group entered the river for a swim. Eyewitnesses stated that they were caught in deep water and strong currents, causing panic among those present at the ghat.

Upon receiving the news, teams from the Rampur Naikin police station, Khaddi outpost, and local administration rushed to the scene to initiate a search and rescue operation. Local residents also joined in the efforts to locate the missing individuals.

During the operation, the body of a young woman was found approximately half a kilometer downstream from where the victims went missing. The deceased was identified as Jyoti Sen, 24, a resident of Budha Baur village under the Ramnagar police station in Maihar district. Her family has been notified.

By late evening, the missing individuals were identified as Subhi Sen, 15, Neelu Bais, 22, and Lakhan Kevat, 26.

Tehsildar Ashish Mishra stated that rescue teams were called immediately after the incident, and efforts to find the missing persons are ongoing. He emphasized that every possible measure is being taken to locate them, with the rescue operation being conducted under administrative supervision.

Officials suspect that the victims may have become trapped in a deep whirlpool. Mishra noted that this section of the Son River is known for its strong currents and deep whirlpools. Initial assessments suggest that they were swept away into deep waters and could not be rescued in time.

Police officials are investigating the circumstances that led the four individuals to the Bhawarsein Ghat and their decision to enter the river. The rescue operation continued into the evening, with police and administrative officials present at the site as search teams scoured the river for the three missing persons.
