TMCs Call for Fresh Elections Dismissed as Unpractical by Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

New Delhi, June 9: Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury dismissed recent statements from leaders within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) amid rising internal disputes. He stated that the demand for fresh elections reflects a sense of despair and frustration following political upheavals.

In response to TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee’s comments, Chowdhury described the call for new elections as impractical, emphasizing that it showcases political disappointment.

He remarked, “There is no sense in speaking like a madman. This isn’t a local village wrestling match where one can fight again just half an hour after losing. It is an expression of frustration.”

The meeting on Monday between a group of TMC MPs and Union Minister Bhupender Yadav sparked new controversy within the party. Banerjee accused the MPs of leaning towards the BJP, claiming they now view Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their leader.

Chowdhury also commented on the growing rebellion within the TMC, particularly highlighting senior MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who has emerged as a face for the dissenting faction.

Responding to Dastidar’s recent remarks, Chowdhury stated that working for the country is not a crime. After spending so many years in the TMC, perhaps she never had the opportunity to serve the nation. Now, following electoral defeat, all the work seems to be remembered. That is her own choice.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a four-time Lok Sabha MP from the Barasat constituency and a doctor by profession, has become central to one of the largest parliamentary revolts faced by the TMC in recent years.

She is leading a group of rebel TMC MPs who have sought recognition as a separate faction in Parliament, putting them in direct confrontation with party chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

This rebellion has arisen after numerous internal disagreements and comes at a time when TMC leadership faces increasing scrutiny regarding organizational unity.
