TMC Unveils First Candidate List for Assam Assembly Elections 2026

Guwahati, March 21: Preparations for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 are gaining momentum among political parties. The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming elections in Assam.

This announcement was made under the guidance of the party’s national president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Assam TMC has declared candidates for a total of 17 assembly seats, including those from various districts and reserved constituencies.

The TMC has nominated Udangshree Narzary from the Baokhungri seat (A.C. 4) in Kokrajhar district, Mominur Islam from Bilasipara (A.C. 10) in Dhubri district, Arif Akhtar Ahmed from Jaleswar (A.C. 12) in Goalpara district, Kaushik Ranjan Das from Abhayapuri (A.C. 16) in Bongaigaon district, and Kalyani Kalita from Bajali (A.C. 26) in Bajali district.

Additionally, the party has fielded Dulu Ahmed from Chamaria (A.C. 27) in Kamrup district, Bhoglal Rabha from Boko-Chaygaon (ST) (A.C. 28) in Kamrup district, Amirul Islam from Barkhetri (A.C. 38) in Nalbari district, Rajan Chauhan from Goreswar (ST) (A.C. 44) in Tamulpur district, and Hare Krishna Deka from Mangaldai (A.C. 50) in Darrang district.

TMC has also placed its trust in Narendra Kumar Paw from Dhemaji (ST) (A.C. 78), Jiten Nag from Digboi (A.C. 84) in Tinsukia district, Dilip Moran from Makum (A.C. 85), Tapas Das from Uddharband (A.C. 115) in Cachar district, Fazlur Rahman Laskar from Katigorah (A.C. 116), and Shahjahan Laskar from Sonai (A.C. 119).

This initial list showcases the party’s strong claims in various regions, particularly in the Brahmaputra Valley, Bodoland area, and southern Assam (Barak Valley). Many candidates appear to focus on local issues and representation of their communities. The Assam TMC has wished all candidates success, urging them to serve the public. The party aims to present a third option in Assam, alongside the BJP and Congress, especially in areas with significant ethnic and linguistic diversity.
