Kolkata, June 6: Mohammad Azmal Siddiqui, the state secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) minority wing, resigned from all party positions and his primary membership on Saturday. He cited the leadership style of party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and the current atmosphere within the organization as reasons for his departure.
In a letter addressed to TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, Siddiqui stated that he made this decision after careful consideration. He expressed that he had dedicated his time, energy, and commitment to the party, always working for the benefit of the organization and its workers.
Siddiqui mentioned that it was an honor to work under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and that he played a role in the party’s expansion. However, he now feels unable to continue his association with the party.
He acknowledged that personal reasons contributed to his decision but emphasized his deep dissatisfaction with the current environment and operational methods of the party.
Siddiqui accused the party of consistently overlooking dedicated workers over the past few years, sidelining them and denying them the respect they deserve. According to him, the democratic tradition of dialogue and collective decision-making within the party has weakened significantly, leading to increased frustration among grassroots workers.
In his letter, Siddiqui specifically questioned Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership style, stating that working under his guidance had become increasingly challenging.
He wrote, “In my experience, the way he handles party affairs and interacts with workers has created an environment where long-term and loyal members feel neglected and marginalized. The excessive centralization of power and lack of adequate consultation with workers have made it difficult for individuals like me to fulfill our responsibilities effectively.”
At the end of his letter, Siddiqui expressed gratitude to Mamata Banerjee for the opportunities and trust he received as the state secretary of the minority wing. He requested that his resignation be accepted immediately, freeing him from all party positions and primary membership.
He also extended his best wishes for Mamata Banerjee and the future of the Trinamool Congress.
