TMC Accused of Intimidation Tactics in West Bengal Elections by Congress Leader

Murshidabad, April 4: As the West Bengal Assembly elections approach, political parties are ramping up their preparations. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is striving to maintain its power for a fourth consecutive term, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making every effort to seize control. Amid this charged electoral atmosphere, political rhetoric has intensified.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress candidate from Baharampur, launched a scathing attack on the TMC on Saturday. He accused the ruling party of attempting to intimidate and coerce the public during the election period.

Speaking to reporters, Chowdhury stated that the TMC has developed a reputation for fostering an environment of fear rather than gathering democratic support. He alleged that party workers are resorting to intimidation, threats, and looting due to their awareness of their declining position.

The Congress leader emphasized that such tactics are employed when political circumstances weaken. He claimed that the TMC is now resorting to thuggery to improve its standing in the elections. Chowdhury also implicated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this process, suggesting that local police are complicit in these actions.

Chowdhury further asserted that the people of Murshidabad and Baharampur are not intimidated by these activities. He noted that despite the circumstances, the general public is determined to move forward and exercise their voting rights.

It is worth mentioning that the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election schedule for West Bengal and four other states/Union Territories on March 15, 2026. Voting in West Bengal will take place in two phases: on April 23 for 152 seats and on April 29 for 142 seats. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
