Hyderabad, June 20: A 24-hour countdown event for International Yoga Day was held in Hyderabad on Saturday. Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy joined thousands of participants in a collective yoga session.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy stated, “On June 21, International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide, thanks to the initiative of the Indian government. For the past seven years, we have organized a 24-hour countdown event in Hyderabad, where prominent citizens come together to celebrate this occasion. Today’s event was spectacular, with thousands of yoga enthusiasts participating.”
He noted that former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, and several MPs and MLAs were present.
Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya remarked, “The entire world is celebrating Yoga Day. Yoga promotes health and helps connect the mind, intellect, and body. Therefore, yoga is not just for the youth or women; it is a practice that everyone can adopt.”
BJP MP Etela Rajender emphasized that India’s ancient tradition of yoga is helping improve health globally. Since the UN recognized International Yoga Day, its promotion has gained momentum worldwide.
Etela Rajender added, “Since Prime Minister Modi took office, people around the world have shown interest in staying healthy. Our traditional practice of yoga and India’s appeal to celebrate Yoga Day have been well received. India’s efforts to promote health and well-being globally will prove to be very effective.”
Telugu actor Naveen Polishetty also participated in the yoga event. He said, “Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy invited us here for International Yoga Day. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always emphasized this. I have previously mentioned that he (PM Modi) is a supporter of yoga. As you can see, nearly 10,000 people gathered here today in Hyderabad. Initially, I wondered how many would show up at 6 AM, but the response has been overwhelming.”
