Third Meeting of China-Thailand Foreign Minister Consultation Mechanism Concludes

Bangkok, April 25: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the third meeting of the China-Thailand Foreign Minister Consultation Mechanism with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Surapong Tovichakchaikul, on Friday.

During the meeting, Wang Yi noted that last year marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He highlighted that during Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s first visit to China, significant agreements were made regarding the establishment of a shared future for the China-Thailand community. This year, China has entered the first year of its “15th Five-Year Plan” (2026–2030), while Thailand’s new government is also in its early stages. China aims to implement strategic agreements with Thailand and promote modernization and genuine multilateralism.

Wang Yi emphasized that China regards Thailand as a key partner in its neighboring diplomacy. Both countries are advancing their relations based on mutual respect, equality, and cooperation. He expressed hope that Thailand would continue to support China’s peaceful reunification. The two sides agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, address cross-border crimes, and advance global initiatives together.

Additionally, Wang Yi stated that China advocates resolving international disputes through dialogue rather than force. He called for restraint from Thailand and Cambodia, urging the creation of a conducive environment for negotiations and a swift resolution of border disputes. He assured that China is ready to provide a platform for restoring trust between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul affirmed that his country places great importance on its relationship with China and firmly adheres to the “One China” principle. He mentioned that Thailand would strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as communication, trade, online gambling, and fraud prevention. Both parties also exchanged views on Lancang-Mekong cooperation and East Asian regional collaboration.
