Mumbai, August 19: In the world of Hindi cinema, certain songs evoke vivid memories of the past. One such timeless classic is “Roop Tera Mastana” from the film “Aradhana,” which remains a favorite among audiences today. This iconic song features the beloved pairing of Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore.
However, the intriguing story behind this famous track is less known. Actor and dancer Javed Jaffrey recently shared an interesting anecdote about the song’s creation and filming process. In an upcoming episode of the dance reality show “India’s Best Dancer Season 5,” Jaffrey will recount his memories associated with this song.
He revealed that the version of the song people are familiar with today was not its original form. Initially, “Roop Tera Mastana” was crafted in a folk style, but later, Kishore Kumar made significant changes to modernize it.
Jaffrey explained, “Composer S.D. Burman originally created ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ in a folk style. The initial version was quite different from what we hear today. Kishore Kumar felt that the song could be refreshed and made more contemporary. He collaborated with S.D. Burman to alter the song’s style.”
He added, “The version of ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ that people eventually heard was the final take after these changes. Kishore Kumar’s voice had a magical quality. He could adapt various songs to his unique style, which is why this modern rendition resonated so deeply with audiences.”
Jaffrey further noted that Sharmila Tagore was quite busy at the time, leaving little room for extensive shooting. Remarkably, they completed the entire shoot for this song in just one day.
He remarked, “Shooting in such a short time was no easy feat. Many elements changed at the last minute, from recording to filming. Nevertheless, the entire team managed to finish the work in a limited timeframe, resulting in a piece that people still cherish. Often, when under pressure, artists can create something even better than expected.”
“Roop Tera Mastana” was part of the film “Aradhana,” which solidified the on-screen chemistry between Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore, making it a memorable experience for viewers.
