Texas Lawmakers Call for Federal Investigation into H-1B Visa Fraud

Washington, May 7: Republican lawmakers from Texas have urged the Trump administration to initiate a federal investigation into alleged H-1B visa fraud in North Texas. They argue that the misuse of this program is harming American workers and undermining trust in the U.S. immigration system.

The appeal was made in a letter addressed to Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Acting Secretary Keith Sonderling, and Secretary Mulvaney. The letter was spearheaded by Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne, with signatures from Representatives Pat Fallon, Ronny Jackson, and Brandon Gill.

According to the lawmakers, these activities are concentrated in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, specifically in Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties. They wrote, “The presence of these activities in North Texas raises concerns about local-level abuses of the system. North Texas is a significant economic hub for our country.”

They emphasized, “When the wrong individuals manipulate visa pathways on a large scale, it disrupts the local labor market, lowers salaries, and erodes trust in the legal immigration process.”

Van Duyne noted that recent investigations by independent journalists have exposed blatant and false misuse of the H-1B visa program in North Texas.

She stated, “I thank my North Texas colleagues for supporting my call for immediate action from the administration to investigate and prosecute these serious violations of our immigration laws.”

Van Duyne added, “The misuse of the H-1B visa is an affront to our country. It harms American workers, depresses wages, and leaves graduating students without job prospects in their fields of study. It should be eliminated for economic and national security reasons.”

The lawmakers also referenced previous actions by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, who initiated separate investigations earlier this year into alleged H-1B misuse and labor displacement practices.

They urged federal agencies to conduct a coordinated inter-agency investigation involving employers, third-party agents, and affiliated institutions. They also called for a review of existing H-1B approval and verification processes to identify any fraudulent job offers, wage discrepancies, or inappropriate labor conditions.

Additionally, they recommended strengthening enforcement measures, increasing audits of H-1B sponsors, and imposing stricter penalties on fraudulent institutions. Their recommendations included better coordination among the Departments of Homeland Security, Labor, and State to enable real-time verification of employment legitimacy and visa compliance.
