Tension Escalates in Behala West as BJP Candidate Alleges Vandalism by TMC Workers

Kolkata, April 6: Tensions have risen in the Behala West assembly constituency ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections. BJP candidate Indranil Khan has accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers of vandalizing the party’s election office. Following Khan’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against TMC candidate Ratna Chattopadhyay at the Paranashree police station.

Indranil Khan claimed that TMC workers attacked the BJP election office in Paranashree. He, along with BJP leaders, filed a complaint at the Paranashree police station against those responsible for the vandalism, as well as the Kolkata police and security personnel present at the scene during the incident.

Khan alleged that Ratna Chattopadhyay, the TMC candidate and sitting MLA for Behala West, along with her associates, orchestrated the vandalism at the BJP office. He stated that this occurred in the presence of Kolkata police officials, who allegedly provided protection to the perpetrators.

Behala West is a significant assembly constituency located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The candidates contesting from this seat include Ratna Chattopadhyay from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Indranil Khan from the BJP, Nihar Bhakt from CPI(M), and Sabil Roy from Congress.

Just a day prior, on April 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Cooch Behar, targeting the TMC government. He emphasized that Bengal is a land of ‘Shakti Puja’ and assured the women of Bengal that the BJP stands for their dignity and prosperity. Modi stated that if the BJP comes to power, it will pave the way for true empowerment of women, citing the party’s track record.

He also mentioned that after May 4, the law will take its course, asserting that justice will prevail regardless of the influence of criminals. Modi criticized the TMC for allowing the hard-earned money of Bengal’s citizens to be looted over the years, promising accountability for corrupt individuals and the return of misappropriated wealth to the public. He expressed hope that the women of Bengal would benefit from this initiative by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, emphasizing the need to uproot the TMC’s lawlessness.
