Telangana TRS Leader Seeks Extension for Graduate Voter Registration Deadline

K. Kavitha of TRS urges Telangana Election Commission to extend voter registration deadline for MLC elections, emphasizing its importance.

Hyderabad, November 2 (Daily Kiran) : K. Kavitha, the leader of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and former MLC, met with the Telangana State Election Commission in Hyderabad on November 2. During the meeting, she discussed pending issues related to MLC graduate voter registration, party registration, and preparations for the upcoming MLC elections.

Following the meeting, Kavitha emphasized the significance of the MLC elections for Telangana. Her party has already announced two candidates for the elections. “This election is crucial, as approximately 75 percent of Telangana will be involved in this electoral process,” she stated, highlighting the importance of their request to the election commission.

Kavitha urged the commission to extend the deadline for graduate voter registration. She argued that, similar to general elections, the deadline for voter registration should align with the nomination deadline for MLC elections. This extension would allow more graduate voters to register, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the voting process.

“The state election commissioner responded positively to our request. We hope that if registration is available until the last day of nominations, millions more graduate voters will be able to register,” she added.

Regarding the party registration issue, Kavitha noted that the registration process for the TRS is pending with the National Election Commission in Delhi. She requested the state election commission to advocate for their cause, stating, “We are operating within the regulations of the election commission, and we have asked them to recommend us to the National Election Commission.”

Kavitha expressed her party’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the people of Telangana. She is confident that their candidates will achieve favorable results in the upcoming elections.

In response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah‘s visit to Telangana, Kavitha welcomed all national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Amit Shah. However, she also raised critical questions about the support the central government would provide to farmers struggling in the state. She urged the central government to offer financial assistance of ₹25,000 per acre to help Telangana’s farmers, particularly given the state government’s advice against farming in the upcoming season.

Kavitha stated that she would also write to Prime Minister Modi regarding this issue, emphasizing his responsibility in the matter. She pointed out that the state government has declared 320 mandals flood-affected and stressed that the central government should act promptly to provide relief without waiting for formal requests.
