Telangana to Distribute E-Scooters to College Girls Soon: CM K. Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad, March 9: Telangana Chief Minister K. Revanth Reddy announced on Sunday that the state government plans to distribute electric scooters to college girls soon.

While addressing a Women’s Day event, the Chief Minister mentioned that although it may not be feasible this financial year, the initiative for providing electric vehicles to female college students is on the horizon.

During the 2023 assembly elections, the Congress party promised to provide electric scooters to every girl aged 18 and above. However, opposition parties have criticized the Congress government for failing to fulfill this promise even after two years.

In his speech, the Chief Minister detailed the government’s efforts to make Hyderabad pollution-free. He highlighted the implementation of a zero tax policy on electric vehicles.

He pointed out that 2,500 diesel buses operated by the Road Transport Corporation are contributing to pollution in Hyderabad, and these will be replaced with electric buses by December.

The Chief Minister also noted that cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai are grappling with issues such as pollution and flooding, asserting that Hyderabad is the best city among them. He praised former Chief Ministers N. Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for transforming Hyderabad and stated that efforts are underway to elevate the city to the level of South Korea, New York, and Tokyo.

Additionally, he discussed plans to relocate polluting industries beyond the Outer Ring Road. He classified Hyderabad’s pollution level as “orange” and warned that if left unchecked, it could escalate to the “red” zone.

Revanth Reddy accused opposition parties of obstructing efforts to clean the Musi River. He compared the situation in Hyderabad to the Sabarmati Riverfront development in Ahmedabad, where 10,000 families were displaced without adequate facilities. He criticized the BJP for taking charge of riverfront developments in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh while opposing similar initiatives in Hyderabad.
