Telangana to Cut Salary by 10% for Employees Neglecting Parental Care

New Law to Enforce Parental Care Among Government Employees

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government is set to introduce a new law mandating a 10 percent salary deduction for government employees who fail to take proper care of their parents. The deducted amount will be directly transferred to the parents’ bank accounts. This initiative aims to ensure better protection and support for elderly citizens.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced on Monday that complaints filed by elderly parents against their children will be taken seriously. To address such cases, the government will ensure that a portion of the employees’ salary is routed to their parents, reinforcing accountability within families.

Support for Persons with Disabilities and Senior Citizens

The Chief Minister also launched a scheme providing free assistive devices such as retrofitted motorised vehicles, battery-operated tricycles, battery wheelchairs, laptops, hearing aids, and mobile phones to persons with disabilities. The government has allocated Rs 50 crore for this initiative. Additionally, a day-care centre named ‘Pranam’ is being established for senior citizens to enhance their care and well-being.

Further, the government plans to introduce a new health policy in the 2026-27 budget to improve healthcare services for all residents of the state.

Inclusion of Transgender Persons and Empowerment Measures

In a move to promote social inclusion, the Chief Minister declared that in the upcoming local body elections, all municipal corporations will nominate transgender persons as co-option members. This step aims to provide a platform for transgender individuals to raise their concerns effectively.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities, the Chief Minister noted existing schemes providing special quotas in education and employment. Newlywed persons with disabilities are also eligible for financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh under these programmes.

Remembering former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy, who overcame disability to become an exemplary parliamentarian, the Chief Minister emphasised the government’s human-centric approach to ensure dignity and equal opportunities for all citizens.
