
Hyderabad, May 27: The Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, has directed officials to remain vigilant following the ‘Orange Alert’ issued by the Meteorological Department for several districts. This warning comes as the state braces for heavy rainfall.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for additional arrangements at rice procurement centers and urged officials to expedite the procurement process. He instructed that sufficient tarpaulins be prepared to protect the stored rice from moisture. Furthermore, he ordered that tarpaulins from centers where procurement is complete be relocated to other centers.
In light of warnings about strong winds and thunderstorms, the Chief Minister advised the public to stay cautious. Recent rainfall has provided relief to those affected by the heatwave, making the weather more pleasant in Hyderabad and surrounding districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms in districts including Hyderabad, Mahabubnagar, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and others, with wind speeds reaching 30-40 km/h.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, the highest recorded rainfall was 136.6 mm in Devarakadra, Mahabubnagar district, over a 12-hour period until 8:30 AM on Wednesday. Other notable rainfall measurements include 47.8 mm in Chinna Chinta Kunta and 34.3 mm in Serivenkatpur, both in Mahabubnagar.
In the Vikarabad district, Mujahidpur received 25.3 mm of rain, while Watpalle in Sangareddy recorded 17.3 mm. In Greater Hyderabad, the highest rainfall of 21.3 mm was noted at the Vinayak Nagar ward office in Malkajgiri, followed by 17 mm in the BHEL factory area.
Light to moderate rainfall was also observed in various localities across Hyderabad, including Secunderabad, Balanagar, and Kukatpally.
