Sanju Samson Stays Grounded as He Embraces Fearless Cricket
Indian cricketer Sanju Samson reflects on his confidence and fearless approach to the game ahead of the T20 series against New Zealand.

Bengaluru, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has expressed his commitment to playing fearless cricket while staying grounded. Following an impressive performance at the T20 World Cup 2026, he feels a surge of confidence.
In the tournament, Samson emerged as the leading run-scorer for India, amassing 321 runs at an average of 80.25 across five matches. He believes this success has significantly boosted his self-assurance.
Ahead of the fifth T20 match against the West Indies at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Samson stated, “Absolutely, it gives you a lot of confidence. After that, you start to understand your game better. You focus on your process, minimize external noise, and try to create an environment in your mind that allows you to perform at your best on the field. Sometimes you score runs, sometimes you don’t. So, I try to understand that, stay grounded, and continue to play fearless cricket.”
The fifth and decisive T20 match has faced delays due to rain, with the toss postponed until 8:20 PM. Samson shared his thoughts on what goes through his mind during such interruptions. “In the dressing room, we miss having someone like you (Chahal) to lighten the atmosphere. When it’s raining, there’s little point in overthinking cricket. Bishnoi and Arshdeep keep themselves occupied, so you can imagine the mood in the dressing room.”
The Indian team is set to begin a T20 series against New Zealand on October 22. Reflecting on preparations for the tour, Samson noted, “To be honest, with the way schedules are set nowadays, there’s not much time for practice or preparation. That’s where your experience comes in. You try to keep yourself mentally in a good place and make the most of whatever time you have. We only have one day for batting practice.”
He added, “We will arrive there on the 20th, practice on the 21st, and play the match on the 22nd. Therefore, we will try to carry forward the good things we’ve done here. It takes some time to adjust to the conditions there, so we will aim to understand the situation in the first two or three balls. We will follow what we’ve learned from experience and play our game while respecting the conditions.”
