Prominent Athletes to Carry Indias Flag at Para Asian Games 2026
Promod Bhagat and Simran Sharma will lead Indias contingent at the Para Asian Games, allowing Bhavina Patel to focus on her quarter-final match.

Nagoya, October 17 (Daily Kiran) : The 2026 Para Asian Games, set to take place in Nagoya, Japan, will see Promod Bhagat and Simran Sharma serving as flag bearers during the opening ceremony on Sunday. This decision comes as part of the Indian team’s strategy to give silver medalist Bhavina Patel ample time to prepare for her quarter-final match the following day.
Officials from the Indian contingent decided to prioritize Bhavina’s rest and recovery ahead of her crucial quarter-final scheduled for October 19. The extensive travel to the venue takes approximately six hours, which can be physically exhausting and limits her recovery time.
Satyanarayan, the chief coach of para athletics, emphasized the importance of ensuring that Bhavina is fully rested before her key competition. He stated, “Given the demands of being a wheelchair athlete, the journey to the venue can be quite tiring. We felt it was essential to make this adjustment for her health and the competition schedule. Our priority is to ensure that our athletes receive the necessary rest to perform at their best.”
Bhagat and Sharma’s selection as flag bearers underscores the commitment to athlete well-being, ensuring that their responsibilities during the ceremony do not hinder their preparation and performance.
The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is optimistic about securing several medals at the Para Asian Games, with Bhagat and Bhavina expected to be among the standout performers. India is particularly hopeful for success in para-athletics and para-badminton events.
