Chennai, May 21: The process of cabinet expansion in Tamil Nadu has commenced. The Chief Minister has recommended the inclusion of 23 new legislators in the council of ministers, a move that has received the Governor’s approval. This expansion is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the TVK government.
The Governor promptly accepted the Chief Minister’s recommendation and granted approval for the swearing-in of these 23 legislators as ministers. Notably, this includes two Congress legislators, marking the party’s return to the Tamil Nadu cabinet after nearly 59 years.
Among the newly appointed ministers are Srinath (Thoothukudi), Kamali S (Avinashi), C. Vijayalakshmi (Kumarapalayam), R.V. Ranjitkumar (Kanchipuram), Vinod (Kumbakonam), Rajiv (Tiruvadanai), B. Rajkumar (Kuddalore), V. Gandhiraj (Arakkonam), Mathan Raja P (Ottapidaram), Jagadeshwari K (Rajapalayam), M. Vijay Balaji (Erode East), Logesh Tamilselvan D (Rasipuram), Vijay Tamil Parthiban A (Salem South), Ramesh (Srirangam), Kumar R (Velachery), Thenarasu K (Sriperumbudur), V. Additionally, the list of new ministers includes two Congress legislators: Rajesh Kumar S (Kiliyur) and K.P. Vishwanathan (Melur). Currently, the Congress has five legislators in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, emerging as a key supporting force for the TVK government after the assembly elections.
This cabinet expansion is expected to not only provide the government with a strong majority in the assembly but also ensure representation from various sectors and communities. The new ministers represent a mix of youthful faces and experienced legislators.
Politically, this cabinet expansion is considered crucial for the TVK government, especially with the inclusion of the two Congress legislators, which strengthens the coalition. The return of Congress to the Tamil Nadu cabinet is seen as a historic moment for the party.
