Swami Ramdev Urges Kanwariyas to Maintain Discipline and Avoid Substance Abuse

Haridwar, July 29: On the auspicious occasion of the Shravan month and the Kanwar Yatra, yoga guru Swami Ramdev appealed to devotees to embrace discipline, cleanliness, and a virtuous lifestyle. He emphasized that the Kanwar Yatra is not merely a religious tradition; it is a commitment to embodying the ideals of Lord Shiva in one’s life. Engaging in substance abuse or creating disturbances during this pilgrimage is a disrespect to Lord Shiva and the eternal culture.

Swami Ramdev stated that the Shravan month is highly sacred. It is a time for worshipping the supreme deity, Mahadev, who is the Adiyogi. The Ganges is considered the flowing form of Shiva, and devotees seek blessings by performing abhishekam with Ganga water. This festival is an opportunity for self-purification, restraint, and spiritual advancement. Unfortunately, some individuals indulge in intoxication and create chaos, tarnishing the dignity of this holy tradition. Consuming bhang, ganja, or any form of intoxication is not true devotion to Shiva but rather a disrespect to Him. Similarly, immoral acts in the name of Lord Krishna or deceit in the name of Lord Rama contradict the essence of religion.

He remarked that Lord Rama symbolizes truth, virtue, and righteousness. If society adopts these ideals, the establishment of Ram Rajya will be possible. Likewise, embodying the qualities of Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva will uphold the true prestige of the eternal culture. Any form of intoxication or disturbance harms not just the individual but the entire image of Sanatan Dharma. He urged all devotees to make their journey a medium of devotion, service, and discipline, and to refrain from actions that could raise questions about their faith.

Addressing the Kanwariyas, he encouraged them to deepen their devotion to Lord Shiva. He advised anyone struggling with addiction to take a vow during the Kanwar Yatra to remain substance-free for life. Embracing the divinity of Mahadev and the yoga of Adiyogi while leading a virtuous and disciplined life is the essence of true devotion to Shiva.

Swami Ramdev also announced that Patanjali is providing free offerings of jalebi, laddus, and boondi made from cow ghee for the Kanwariyas. He urged devotees to partake in the offerings, worship Lord Shiva, and complete their journey with full devotion.

He expressed gratitude towards Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that the respect given to Kanwariyas, the Kanwar Yatra, and devotion to Shiva has never been as profound as it is today. He expressed confidence that all Kanwariyas would uphold the eternal values of cleanliness, discipline, and Sanatan culture with utmost purity, preserving the dignity of the Kanwar Yatra.
