Mumbai, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a special campaign across the state to ensure food safety during the festive season. In Nagpur, authorities seized a stash of banned gutkha valued at ₹12.10 lakh and arrested three individuals in connection with the illicit trade. Additionally, licenses for 14 hotels, restaurants, and food establishments have been suspended across various locations, including Mumbai.
According to the FDA, extensive inspections were conducted statewide to assess food quality and safety. During these operations, 2,813 kilograms of dairy products were confiscated, with an estimated value exceeding ₹7.38 lakh.
In a significant move, the FDA targeted the Nagpur division, seizing the gutkha and two vehicles linked to the operation. The crackdown led to the immediate suspension of licenses for 14 establishments found violating food safety and hygiene regulations. Furthermore, 13 other establishments received notices for necessary improvements.
The FDA also scrutinized a range of food items, including dairy products, betel nuts, various snacks, and palm wine. This resulted in the seizure of food items worth ₹4.66 lakh, along with 12.5 liters of palm wine.
In Mumbai, FDA officials took swift action against seven establishments for violating food safety and cleanliness standards. Following a consumer complaint, the food license of Olympia Coffee House in Colaba was suspended on September 16, 2026.
During an inspection of Blink Commerce Private Limited in Chembur, serious violations of food safety regulations were uncovered, prompting an immediate suspension of the company’s license and initiation of legal proceedings.
Other establishments, such as Vishwas Sweets and Snacks in Ghatkopar West, A-1 General and Dry Fruits, and the canteen at Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central, also faced license suspensions due to breaches of food safety standards.
The FDA emphasized that inspections will continue throughout the festive season to ensure food quality, hygiene, and consumer safety. The agency is committed to taking strict action against establishments that violate regulations to provide the public with safe and high-quality food products.
