Mumbai, March 5: The Mumbai police have arrested a suspect from the 24 Parganas area of West Bengal for sending bomb threats to various locations, including schools, the stock exchange, and metro stations in Mumbai and other states. The arrested individual has been identified as 28-year-old Sourav Biswas.
According to the Mumbai police, the suspect attempted to instill fear by sending bomb threats to over 50 locations across Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, and other states in the past five days. His intentions were solely to create panic. The police are currently conducting ongoing interrogations with the suspect.
On February 27, at 8:46 AM, a threatening email was sent via the internet to schools and metro stations in Mumbai, warning of a bomb explosion within the next two days. This alarming email triggered a significant response from security agencies. Given the seriousness of the threat, a case was registered against an unknown individual at the Dindoshi police station, and an immediate investigation was launched. Through technical analysis and email tracking, the police successfully identified the suspect.
The investigation revealed that the email was sent by Sourav Biswas, who resides in the New Barakpur area of West Bengal. A special team from the Dindoshi police station was dispatched to West Bengal in search of the suspect. During this time, another shocking fact emerged.
The suspect had previously sent a similar threatening email on February 16, 2026, in Ahmedabad. The Ahmedabad Cyber Police had already registered a case in this matter and had taken the suspect into custody on March 1, 2026. Following this, the Mumbai police apprehended him from there. Now, the Mumbai police are working to determine whether the suspect’s threats were merely a prank or if there is a larger network and conspiracy involved. Interrogations are currently ongoing.
