Surge in Cross-Border Travel in China During May Day Holidays, Over 112 Million Movements Recorded

Beijing, May 6: The Chinese National Immigration Administration has reported a significant increase in cross-border travel during this year’s May Day holidays, which spanned from May 1 to May 5. During this period, border inspection officials managed a total of 112.79 million entries and exits for both Chinese and foreign citizens. This averages to about 2.25 million travelers per day, marking a 3.5% increase compared to the same timeframe last year.

According to the administration, the highest movement was recorded on May 2, with 2.52 million travelers entering and exiting the country. The data indicates that during the five-day holiday, the number of foreign tourists traveling to and from China reached 1.25 million, which is a 12.5% increase from the previous year. Among these foreign visitors, 436,000 were eligible for visa-free entry, representing a 14.7% rise compared to the May Day holidays last year.

Additionally, a total of 531,000 transport vehicles were inspected during the holidays, reflecting a 16.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Under a unified system by the Chinese National Immigration Administration, border inspection departments across the country scientifically forecasted passenger numbers at various entry and exit ports and advised travelers to plan their journeys accordingly. All border inspection agencies ensured smooth and expedited customs clearance for travelers.

As a result, the entry and exit processes at ports nationwide were safe, stable, orderly, and efficient during the May Day holidays.
