Mumbai, August 2: Bollywood actor Suraj Pancholi is back in the spotlight. Recently, he has been focusing on his career and seeking a fresh start. However, the case surrounding actress Jia Khan’s death continues to haunt him.
Despite being acquitted by the court in 2023, Suraj expressed deep frustration over social media and certain platforms still labeling the case as ‘unsolved.’
In a heartfelt post, Suraj revealed that he spent 14 years proving his innocence. He finds it extremely painful to still be scrutinized.
On his Instagram account, Suraj shared a lengthy note, openly discussing his feelings. He explained that he remained silent for so long to avoid hurting anyone’s personal life and dignity. Now that the court has ruled in his favor, it saddens him that some still consider him guilty or refer to the case as unresolved.
Suraj wrote, “When this tragic incident occurred, I was only 20 years old. I had known Jia for just four months and had no idea about the mental turmoil she was experiencing. I was too immature to understand the hidden pain within a person, but what followed changed my entire life.”
He continued, “For the next 14 years, I fought to prove my innocence. Those were the years when I should have been building my future, yet I carried the burden of a trial that consumed much of my twenties and thirties. The weight I felt on my mind and heart is something only I know.”
Suraj added, “I chose to remain silent on this matter, but that does not give anyone the right to write anything about me. Out of respect, I never publicly discussed the personal struggles or pains that Jia shared with me. I protected her privacy at all costs. In return, I seek the same fairness and respect for myself.”
At the end of his post, Suraj appealed to the media and the public, stating that if they wish to tell his story, they should do so with complete truth and facts. Honesty, responsibility, sensitivity, and professionalism are crucial when presenting any case.
Actress Jia Khan was found dead in her Mumbai apartment on June 3, 2013. Initial investigations deemed it a suicide, but her mother later raised questions, labeling it a murder. At that time, the relationship between Suraj and Jia was widely discussed, and Suraj was accused of abetting her suicide.
However, after a prolonged legal process, a special CBI court acquitted Suraj of all charges in April 2023.
