Mumbai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Jackie Shroff recently commemorated the 33rd anniversary of his iconic film “Gardish,” a realistic action drama released in 1993. The actor took to social media to share a montage of clips from the film, expressing his nostalgia with the caption, “Gardish has completed 33 years since its release.” He also tagged fellow cast members in his post.
Directed by Priyadarshan, “Gardish” is a remake of the Malayalam hit “Kireedam” (1989). The film featured a stellar cast, including Shroff as Shiv Sathe, Amrish Puri as his father, Inspector Purushottam Sathe, and Dimple Kapadia as Shanti. Notably, Aishwarya made her Bollywood debut in this film, while Mukesh Rishi marked his entry as the antagonist.
The film is celebrated for its realistic storytelling and powerful performances. It won Filmfare Awards for Best Art Direction (Sabu Cyril) and Best Action (Tyagarajan).
The plot revolves around Shiv Sathe and his father, an honest police constable who wishes for his son to serve the community. However, when Shiv must confront a local gangster to save his father, his life takes an unexpected turn, leading him into the world of crime.
The music for “Gardish” was composed by the legendary R.D. Burman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, resulting in several hit songs. The film was a commercial success, ranking as the ninth highest-grossing film of 1993 and is considered one of Shroff’s major solo hits.
Both Shroff and Puri received significant acclaim for their performances, and the film’s songs remain popular to this day.
