New Delhi, May 2: Political tensions have escalated following the Supreme Court‘s dismissal of a petition filed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding the appointment of counting officials during the West Bengal Assembly elections. Various leaders have reacted to this decision.
Samik Bhattacharya, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a Rajya Sabha member from Mecheda, stated, “This is nothing new. The Supreme Court has previously dismissed several petitions from the TMC. After the election results, discussions may arise regarding the expenses and funding sources related to these cases.”
Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar remarked, “The TMC approached the court because they wanted the counting process to be conducted by state government employees affiliated with their organization. However, when the Election Commission decided that the counting would be handled by central government employees, the TMC opposed this decision and attempted to halt it. Consequently, they turned to the Supreme Court.”
He added sarcastically, “I have mentioned before that Kalyan Banerjee should not repeatedly approach the Supreme Court, as he continuously loses such cases. They are not good lawyers.”
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh from the Kharagpur Sadar Assembly seat commented, “Those who have lost in front of the public cannot win elsewhere.”
BJP national spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain also questioned the TMC’s strategy, stating, “It is clear that the TMC has already lost the elections. Now, they are just putting on a drama. Sometimes they enter the strong room, and at other times, they knock on the court’s door.”
On the other hand, Minister Shashi Panja responded to the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the TMC’s petition regarding the counting officials appointed by the central government, saying, “The Supreme Court has delivered its verdict, and we must closely monitor this. We have to respect this decision and nothing more.”
