New Delhi, July 11: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has issued a strong condemnation regarding an unprecedented incident that occurred during judicial proceedings on Friday. The association criticized the alleged disrespectful and abusive behavior of a litigant in front of the court, stating that such incidents pose a serious challenge to the dignity of the judiciary and the sanctity of the legal system.
In an official statement, the SCBA described the conduct of a party before the bench of Justice K.V. Vishwanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe as completely unacceptable. Any form of abuse, threats, or disruption during court proceedings undermines the judicial process and is a direct assault on the rule of law.
The Bar Association emphasized that the dignity and respect of the court must be maintained at all times. Discipline and decorum within the courtroom are the foundation of a democratic justice system, and therefore, such behavior must be dealt with strictly according to the law.
Following the incident, the SCBA has called for the establishment of comprehensive guidelines regarding the video recording, clipping, editing, and dissemination of court proceedings on social media. The association noted that currently, videos or edited snippets of court proceedings are rapidly circulated on social media, often misrepresenting facts and impacting the image of the judiciary.
The Bar Association stressed the need for clear regulations to prevent the misuse of courtroom recordings and to safeguard the dignity of judicial institutions. According to the SCBA, broadcasting court proceedings out of context can create confusion among the public and undermine trust in the judiciary.
The SCBA has also requested intervention from the central government. The association urged the government to take necessary administrative and legal steps to remove such videos and edited clips from social media platforms when their intent is to undermine the dignity of the judiciary or weaken public trust in the courts.
In conclusion, the Bar Association reiterated that maintaining the sanctity of court proceedings is a collective responsibility of all parties involved, and any compromise on the respect for the judiciary is unacceptable.
