Sudden Weather Change Brings Relief to Delhi-NCR with Rain and Thunderstorms

New Delhi, March 15: A sudden shift in weather occurred in the Delhi-NCR region early Sunday morning, bringing rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. This downpour provided some much-needed relief from the oppressive heat that had gripped the area. As a result, the morning weather turned cool and pleasant for residents of the national capital region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi, warning of moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds throughout the day. In contrast, neighboring cities like Noida and Gurugram are under a yellow alert, indicating the possibility of light rain and overcast skies.

The morning rain on Sunday offered respite from the sweltering heat that had enveloped the capital during the first half of March. Dark clouds rolled in, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds, leading to a drop in temperature and a more enjoyable climate. According to the IMD, this weather change is attributed to atmospheric activity in the western Himalayan region.

Earlier forecasts by the weather agency predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds for parts of the western Himalayas and surrounding plains on Sunday and Monday. Such weather patterns are typically associated with western disturbances, which frequently bring rain, storms, and temperature fluctuations to northern India.

The IMD’s orange alert indicates that residents should remain vigilant, as moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds are likely throughout the day. The weather department also cautioned that wind speeds could reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour during the rain, with gusts potentially hitting 50 kilometers per hour.

In nearby NCR cities, including Noida and Gurugram, a yellow alert has been issued, suggesting light rain and cloudy conditions, although the risk level remains relatively low. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, especially during thunderstorms and high winds.

According to the IMD’s forecast, due to overcast skies and continuous rainfall, the maximum temperature in Delhi could drop by approximately 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
