Israeli Diplomats Cast Votes Ahead of Upcoming Parliamentary Elections

Israeli diplomats in India have cast their votes ahead of the parliamentary elections set for October 27, highlighting their participation in the democratic process.

New Delhi, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar voted on Thursday as part of the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Israel, scheduled for October 27. This voting initiative allows diplomats stationed abroad to cast their ballots ahead of time.

The Israeli Embassy in India shared the news via a post on X, emphasizing the ambassador’s participation in the electoral process of the world’s largest democracy. The embassy stated, “Voting for Israel in the world’s largest democracy! Ambassador Reuven Azar cast his vote in New Delhi ahead of the Israeli elections on October 27. Interestingly, Israeli citizens working in embassies around the globe vote early to ensure their ballots reach home on time!”

In Mumbai, Israeli diplomats at the Consulate General also took part in the voting process, casting their votes before the elections. The Consulate for Central India posted on X, “Today, diplomats from the Israeli Consulate in Mumbai voted for the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) elections. They joined other Israeli citizens worldwide in determining the future of the country. Every vote matters, whether cast in Jerusalem or Mumbai.”

With less than two weeks until the elections, Israeli media outlets—Mariv, Channel 13, and Kan News—report that the race remains tight and uncertain. According to The Jerusalem Post, Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party is leading in all three opinion polls. However, it appears that no political bloc is likely to secure the necessary 61 seats for a majority in the Knesset.

Polling averages suggest that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud bloc, which includes Ofer Winter’s People of Israel party, and the Zionist opposition are projected to win around 52 seats each. Variations in poll results and the performance of parties near the electoral threshold could be crucial in determining who forms the next government.

Channel 13’s survey predicts that both Eisenkot’s Yashar and Netanyahu’s Likud will secure 20 seats each, with Eisenkot’s party potentially losing one seat and Likud gaining one. Estimates indicate that Netanyahu’s bloc may win 55 seats, while Eisenkot’s camp could secure around 50. Meanwhile, non-aligned Arab parties are expected to collectively win about 15 seats.

Under Israeli law, general elections for the Knesset must occur every four years. Currently, Netanyahu leads a coalition that is quite limited, comprising far-right and ultra-religious factions.
