Ranchi, August 11: Devendra Nath Mahto, a student leader on an indefinite hunger strike for ten days against alleged irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC recruitment exams, released a handwritten message from Sadar Hospital on Tuesday. Despite receiving treatment, Mahto affirmed that his hunger strike would continue. He emphasized that while his body may weaken, his resolve for justice remains steadfast.
In his message, Mahto highlighted that his campaign against corruption and irregularities in the JPSC-JSSC has been ongoing since July 5. He expressed gratitude to the students, teachers, parents, media personnel, and others who supported the assembly siege on August 10. Furthermore, he called for a fair investigation into the police actions that occurred during the protest.
Mahto alleged that during the assembly siege, police transported him and around 100 other students by ambulance to a location where they were peacefully seated. He claimed that without warning, police began to push and use batons against them, leading to his hospitalization. He questioned why they were brought to that location if the police intended to use force.
He demanded answers and condemned the police’s actions against him and his fellow students while exercising their democratic rights. Mahto urged the state government to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident and take action against those responsible for the use of force during the peaceful protest.
He stated that police brutality cannot silence the voices of students. He insisted that students are fighting for their rights through constitutional and democratic means, not through violence. Mahto appealed to the students and youth involved in the movement to continue their struggle peacefully and democratically.
