
Nairobi, April 15: India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Adarsh Swain, met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Moses Wetangula, on Wednesday. The discussion focused on enhancing parliamentary exchanges and advancing bilateral relations through friendship groups.
During the meeting, Swain presented Wetangula with a letter from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The letter detailed the establishment of the India-Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The Indian High Commission shared on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The High Commissioner met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Moses Wetangula, and delivered a letter from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding the formation of the India-Kenya Parliamentary Friendship Group.”
Further discussions emphasized strengthening parliamentary cooperation and advancing bilateral relations through friendship groups. The meeting included David Ouma Ochieng, the coordinator of the Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group in Kenya, and member Rahim Dawood, who is of Indian descent.
On Tuesday, Adarsh Swain also met with Kenya’s Minister for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya. They discussed enhancing cooperation in youth initiatives, sports partnerships, and the creative sector, focusing on capacity building, talent exchange, and skill development.
Additionally, Swain met with Kenya’s Minister for Home Affairs and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen. This meeting addressed various issues, including the relationship between India and Kenya, high-level visits, trade, investment, defense, security cooperation, training, and capacity building, with a particular emphasis on strengthening security and training collaboration.
India and Kenya are maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the relationship between the two countries has evolved into a robust and multidimensional partnership, characterized by regular high-level visits, increasing trade and investment, and strong people-to-people ties.
