Strengthen Your Spine and Calm Your Mind with Simple Dhanurasana

New Delhi, June 12: With International Yoga Day just around the corner, the Indian government’s Ministry of AYUSH is actively promoting various yoga asanas to raise awareness. Among these, ‘Simple Dhanurasana’ has been highlighted as an effective pose that not only keeps the body active but also enhances spinal flexibility.

Regular practice can lead to improved physical and mental health. Yoga experts note that the sedentary lifestyle many lead today often results in back and spine-related issues. In this context, Simple Dhanurasana stretches the back and helps strengthen the muscles. This asana is also believed to boost energy levels and reduce mental stress.

To perform this asana, begin by lying flat on your stomach. Place your forehead on the ground and bend both knees, grasping your ankles with your hands. Inhale deeply and slowly lift your head, chest, and knees off the ground. As you pull your legs upward with your hands, your body will take on a bow-like shape. Hold this position for a few moments, then exhale and gently return to a resting state, allowing your body to relax.

Experts advise against rushing through this asana. Practicing slowly, according to your body’s capacity, yields the best results. If you have severe back pain, spine issues, or other health concerns, consult a yoga instructor before attempting this pose.
