Sri Lanka Appoints Ryan van Niekerk as Bowling Coach, Jordan Gregory Takes on New Role

New Delhi, April 2: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially appointed Ryan van Niekerk as the bowling coach for the national cricket team. In addition, Jordan Gregory has been chosen as the fielding and spin bowling coach. The board announced this decision on Thursday, stating that their tenure will last for two years, starting from April 15.

Van Niekerk and Gregory will collaborate with Sri Lanka’s head coach Gary Kirsten, who was appointed in March. Kirsten will take over from Sanath Jayasuriya on April 15, with a contract also spanning two years. The primary goal of appointing Van Niekerk and Gregory is to prepare the team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

Before joining Sri Lanka, Kirsten served as the head coach for South Africa, India, and Pakistan. He has also worked with the Netherlands and Namibia.

Ryan van Niekerk has been tasked with overseeing fast bowling across all national teams. Previously, he served as the bowling coach and interim head coach for the Netherlands national team from 2023 to 2026. During his tenure, he contributed to the team’s participation in major international tournaments, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Jordan Gregory as the fielding and spin bowling coach. Gregory previously worked as a fielding consultant for Netherlands Cricket. During his time with the Netherlands, he contributed to several bilateral and multinational tournaments, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2023. He will be responsible for overseeing fielding and spin bowling across all national teams at the High-Performance Center.
