New Delhi, August 7: During the monsoon session of Parliament, members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) staged a protest outside the Parliament complex on Friday. They demanded a fair investigation into the theft of donations intended for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and called for action against the culprits. Despite the rain, SP MPs continued their demonstration, asserting that this issue, linked to the faith of millions of devotees, is extremely serious, yet the government is avoiding discussion on it.
SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav emphasized that the donation theft is not merely a financial irregularity but a matter deeply connected to the religious sentiments of millions. He stated that rain would not deter their protest, and they would continue until the government conducts a fair investigation to clarify who is responsible for the incident.
Another SP MP, Priya Saroj, criticized the government, claiming that those who came to power in the name of Lord Ram are now evading discussion on this issue. She insisted that if donations have been stolen or misappropriated, the public has the right to know who is accountable and what actions are being taken against them. The government is attempting to evade accountability, she argued.
SP MP Dharmendra Yadav reiterated that their movement would persist until action is taken against the accused. He stressed that every penny collected in the name of Lord Ram must reach the temple, and those responsible should be brought to justice.
MP Anand Bhadauria alleged that there has been misappropriation in both the donation boxes and the bank accounts associated with the Ram Temple. He raised concerns about the impartiality of the investigating SIT, stating that if the role of investigative agencies is under suspicion, it will be difficult to trust their reports. He pointed out that the opposition is continually demanding a discussion on this issue in Parliament, but if they are not given the opportunity to speak, how will the truth come to light?
In response to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statements, Dharmendra Yadav remarked that if discussions about reservation and social justice are taking place, the actual participation of backward classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes in the government and institutions must also be highlighted. He questioned how many vice-chancellors in the country’s universities, officials in the Prime Minister‘s Office, and secretaries in the Indian government come from these communities.
Chandrashekhar Azad, president of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram), commented on the Gen Z movement, noting that contradictory statements are emerging at various levels. He stated that if the RSS claims to listen to students while some BJP leaders label the same movement as anti-national, then one of the two sides must be wrong. He alleged that objectionable comments against the protesters were made by BJP leaders within Parliament.
Meanwhile, Mahua Manjhi, MP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), stated that the Jharkhand government has taken students’ complaints seriously. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has already accepted the resignation of the relevant chairman, initiated a CID investigation, and made several arrests. She affirmed that the state government is committed to delivering justice to the students.
