Southampton, July 11: The final match of the five T20 series between India and England is taking place at The Rose Bowl. England has set a daunting target of 258 runs for the Indian team after batting first.
Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that proved costly for Team India. England’s openers, Jos Buttler and captain Harry Brook, dominated the Indian bowlers. Thanks to their explosive innings, England scored 257 runs for the loss of just three wickets in 20 overs.
Jos Buttler and Phil Salt opened the innings for England. Salt was dismissed early, scoring just 6 runs off 9 balls. However, Buttler and Brook did not give the Indian bowlers any chances thereafter, putting together a remarkable partnership of 233 runs for the second wicket over 17 overs.
Buttler played a blistering innings, scoring 131 runs off 64 balls, including 8 sixes and 12 fours. This marks Buttler’s second T20 century in international cricket.
Harry Brook missed out on his century but remained unbeaten with 95 runs off 45 balls, featuring 8 sixes and 4 fours. Sam Billings was dismissed for a duck, while Will Jacks contributed 7 runs off 2 balls with a six. England’s total of 257 runs is the highest score by any team against India in T20 cricket.
The match was a nightmare for Indian bowlers. Prince Yadav conceded 60 runs in 4 overs, Axar Patel gave away 63 runs in 4 overs, and Suryansh Shedge allowed 39 runs in 3 overs, with none taking any wickets.
Shivam Dube managed to take 2 wickets for 22 runs in 1 over, while Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket for 38 runs in 4 overs. Arshdeep Singh went for 33 runs in 4 overs but failed to claim a wicket.
England leads the series 3-0, and Team India must deliver an extraordinary performance to win this match.
