Mumbai, April 3: In the 1990s, actress Somy Ali was a prominent name in Bollywood. On Friday, she took to Instagram to pay tribute to her favorite co-star and mentor, Mithun Chakraborty.
Somy shared a clip from one of their old scenes, accompanied by the iconic song “Jimmy Jimmy.” In her heartfelt post, she wrote, “My favorite co-actor, my mentor, a wonderful person, endowed with extraordinary talent and completely humble. Out of all the films I consciously chose to do, I worked the most with Mithun Da. I miss him dearly and will never forget the moments we shared on screen and the wisdom he imparted to a naive girl from Miami. You will always be close to my heart, and my prayers will always be with you.”
During the 90s, Somy Ali starred in several blockbuster films, sharing the screen with major stars like Mithun Chakraborty, who was known as a disco dancer and action hero at the time. Their on-screen chemistry was well-received by audiences.
Somy and Mithun collaborated on multiple films, including the action thriller “Yaar Gaddar,” the suspense film “Teesra Kaun,” and “Krishna Avatar.”
In “Yaar Gaddar,” released in 1994, Mithun Chakraborty played Inspector Shankar, while Somy Ali portrayed Shashi, his love interest. Mithun’s character was an honest police officer, and Somy’s role was that of a dancer involved with criminals.
In the same year, they appeared together in “Teesra Kaun,” where Mithun took on the role of a police officer solving a mystery, while Somy starred alongside Chunky Pandey in a leading role.
Their collaboration continued in the 1996 film “Krishna Avatar,” where Mithun played Kishan, an honest lawyer, and Somy portrayed his girlfriend and wife, Ruchi.
