Pradosh Vrat occurs twice each lunar month—once on the Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and once on the Krishna Paksha Trayodashi. The fast is observed when the Trayodashi Tithi coincides with the evening twilight (Pradosh Kaal). This period begins at sunset. When Trayodashi and Pradosh Kaal align, it is deemed the most auspicious time for worshiping Lord Shiva.
When Pradosh falls on a Monday, it is referred to as Som Pradosh. This fast is especially dear to Lord Shiva. It is believed to enhance mental tranquility, ensure a happy married life, foster family well-being, and remove defects linked to the moon in one’s horoscope. In simple terms, observing Som Pradosh Vrat increases peace of mind and prosperity within the home.
According to the Drik Panchang, the Krishna Paksha Trayodashi Tithi begins on March 16 at 9:40 AM and lasts until March 17 at 9:23 AM. Since Pradosh Kaal will be present during this Tithi on the evening of March 16, the fast and worship will take place that day. On Monday, sunrise will occur at 6:30 AM, and sunset will be at 6:30 PM.
Regarding auspicious timings on Monday, the Ghodhuli Muhurat is from 6:27 PM to 6:52 PM, while the Amrit Kaal is from 7:47 PM to 9:24 PM. The Abhijit Muhurat will be from 12:06 PM to 12:54 PM, and the Vijay Muhurat will be from 2:30 PM to 3:18 PM.
It is advisable to avoid worship or important tasks during inauspicious times. On Monday, Rahu Kaal will be from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, Yamagand from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Gulika Kaal from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, and Durmuhurt from 12:54 PM to 1:42 PM.
