Patna, July 20: In a major step toward enhancing regional air connectivity in Bihar, the central government’s flagship UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme is set to breathe new life into six small airports across the state. These include Madhubani, Saharsa, Birpur (Supaul), Valmikinagar (West Champaran), Munger, and Muzaffarpur.

Spirit Air LLP, the airline selected by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has been issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to operate flights on these regional routes. The airline will connect these airports with Bihta Airport (near Patna) and Varanasi, offering a range of air travel options for passengers in under-served regions.
Boost to Regional Connectivity and Development
This initiative is expected to significantly improve air travel in Seemanchal, Mithilanchal, Tirhut, and Ang regions—often considered less connected areas. The new routes will promote economic growth, social integration, and tourism in these parts of Bihar.
Bihar Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena expressed pride in the state’s achievement, stating, “It is a moment of pride for Bihar to revive six small airports simultaneously. Affordable and accessible air services will now be within reach of local residents, improving Bihar’s connectivity with the rest of the country.”
