Kolkata, September 3: Kolkata police have arrested six individuals in connection with the vandalism incident at the party office of Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and MP from Diamond Harbour. The incident occurred at the party’s office located on Camac Street in central Kolkata.
Banerjee alleged that BJP workers were responsible for the vandalism. He shared a video on his social media platform, accusing the BJP of the attack and claiming that it took place around 4 AM on Thursday. He also stated that the assailants assaulted the office staff during the incident.
Banerjee demanded the release of CCTV footage from the event and called for the arrest of those responsible. He posted on social media, “This is what the BJP did to my party office early this morning. Will the Governor of West Bengal take action? Will the Union Home Minister take action? Will the PMO take action? Or will they continue to look the other way?”
He emphasized the need for the judiciary, particularly the Calcutta High Court, to seriously address the situation in West Bengal and uphold the rule of law. In his social media posts, he launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari regarding the incident.
Banerjee questioned Adhikari, “Why are you so afraid of the Trinamool Congress and me that you resort to such threats? If this is how the opposition is treated in West Bengal—with violence, brutality, and intimidation—then the Chief Minister has no moral right to remain in office. He should resign.”
He also condemned those who remain silent on the issue. The Diamond Harbour MP stated, “This is not democracy. This is political thuggery. Those responsible should be ashamed. And those who choose to stay silent should also feel ashamed. Every act of aggression will be remembered. Every attack, every act of intimidation, every abuse of power will not be forgotten.”
