Kolkata, September 3: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Lok Sabha member from Diamond Harbour, has accused BJP workers of vandalizing his party office located on Camac Street in central Kolkata.
On Thursday, he released a video on his social media platform, alleging that the BJP was responsible for the destruction at the party office.
Banerjee claimed that the vandalism occurred around 4 AM, during which the assailants also assaulted the office staff. He has called for the public release of CCTV footage from the incident and demanded the arrest of those responsible.
In his post on social media, Banerjee stated, “This is what the BJP did to my party office early this morning. Will the Governor of West Bengal take action? Will the Union Home Minister take action? Will the PMO take action? Or will they continue to look the other way?”
He further emphasized that it is time for the judiciary, particularly the Calcutta High Court, to seriously address the situation in West Bengal and take measures to uphold the rule of law.
Banerjee launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in his social media message. He posed a simple question to Adhikari: “Why are you so afraid of the Trinamool Congress and me that you resort to such threats? If the opposition is treated this way in West Bengal, through violence, brutality, and intimidation, the Chief Minister has no moral right to remain in office. He should resign.”
He also condemned those who choose to remain silent on the matter. The Diamond Harbour MP remarked, “This is not democracy. This is political thuggery. Those responsible should feel ashamed, and those who choose to remain silent should also be ashamed. Every act of aggression, every threat, and every misuse of power will be remembered.”
The controversy surrounding Banerjee’s Camac Street office has intensified following the filing of an FIR related to a dispute over the removal of an illegal TMC hoarding from the building’s roof last week.
In recent days, Kolkata police have already questioned Abhishek Banerjee, his personal assistant Sumit Roy, and TMC Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien regarding this matter.
