
Lucknow, August 18: The Home Department of Uttar Pradesh has submitted the final report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust regarding the offerings theft case at the Ayodhya temple.
This report was prepared by the SIT prior to the Supreme Court‘s intervention in the matter. The SIT was formed on June 13 at the request of the Trust.
The three-member SIT, chaired by Lucknow’s Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, included IG Range Kiran S. and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan Kumar as members. The SIT submitted its preliminary report to the government on June 23, which included several stringent recommendations.
Based on the SIT’s initial report, the first FIR was registered on June 25, naming eight individuals and others unknown as accused. This FIR (Crime No. 90/2026) was filed at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi police station following a written complaint from Trust member Krishnamohan. The named accused include Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, and Shri Ram Shankar Yadav alias Tinnu, along with other unidentified individuals. Charges against the accused were filed under various sections of the law, including 305, 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 61, 3(5) BNS, and 13(1)(A) of the PC Act.
The Supreme Court had heard petitions demanding an independent investigation into the alleged theft of offerings and financial irregularities at the Shri Ram Temple. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohan, directed the SIT to submit a status report on the investigation.
