Sikandar Raza to Lead Zimbabwe in Tri-Series as Richard Ngarava Remains Unfit

New Delhi, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Zimbabwe’s cricket team will be led by all-rounder Sikandar Raza in the upcoming tri-series against Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the UAE. This change comes as the regular captain, Richard Ngarava, has not fully recovered from a back injury. Raza’s leadership will be crucial as Zimbabwe prepares for this competitive series.

The tri-series is set to take place before Zimbabwe faces Afghanistan in three T20 matches and two Test matches. Among the new faces in the squad are wicketkeeper-batsman Tafadzwa Tsiga, aged 32, and 29-year-old leg-spinner Vincent Masakesa, both of whom could make their international debuts. Meanwhile, Graeme Cremer has been excluded from the ODI squad.

Innocent Kaia, who is currently injured, is expected to regain fitness in time for the T20 series against Afghanistan. Tsiga has shown promise this year, scoring three first-class centuries and has previously represented Zimbabwe in Test cricket. Masakesa has also performed well in domestic competitions, taking 25 wickets at an average of 29.92 for Mountaineers and impressing against the Bangladesh junior team.

Raza, along with experienced players Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor, aims to bolster the batting lineup. Blessing Muzarabani will lead the bowling attack, while Brad Evans will participate in all white-ball games except for the third T20 against Afghanistan, where Kundai Matigimu has been included in his place.

Zimbabwe’s ODI squad includes: Sikandar Raza (captain), Ben Curran, Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Brendan Taylor, Brian Bennett, Craig Ervine, Ernest Masuku, Newman Nyamhuri, Ryan Burl, Tadivanaashe Marumani, Tafadzwa Tsiga, Vincent Masakesa, Wellington Masakadza, and Wesley Madhevere.
